The Royal Scottish National Orchestra are first into the pit this season (beating the SCO and BBC SSO by a few days), launching their 2009/10 programme with an evening entitled Arabian Nights. No prizes for guessing that Rimsky-Korsakov's gorgeously romantic Scheherazade forms the climax of the bill, but the other opening shots are less expected: Knussen's Flourish With Fireworks and The Way To Castle Yonder, plus Mozart's Piano Concerto No.24 with Lars Vogt at the keyboard.
