There are hundreds of shows under the Fringe umbrella, from stand-up comedy to theatre, dance and music. The sheer volume can make it an intimidating prospect, but it can be fun just to stick a pin in the official programme and take a chance, whether it be an hour with the world pool trick-shot champion or swordfighting ladies.
