1 Happy Seussentennial! Last Tuesday marked the 100th birthday of Theodor Geisel - or Dr Seuss, as he was more commonly known to fans of children's literature, twisted rhyming schemes, and otherworldy characters like The Grinch and The Cat In The Hat.

2 Geisel's Dr Seuss pseudonym was forced into being. He was stripped of the editorship of his college paper after being caught at an illegal frat party. But he continued to contribute, calling himself "Seuss" - his middle name and his mother's maiden name. The Dr came later, an ironic nod to his father who dreamed his son would be a professor.
