Summary
TO London and the Caledonian Club in Belgravia for my first and only Burns Supper of the year. Among those in attendance were Sir Alex Ferguson and the actor Bill Paterson, who - were he employed in a call centre - has one of those voices that could persuade you to buy nuclear warheads. Last year, I also attended a splendid Burns Supper at Whiterashes, near Inverurie, where the star turn was Czar Alexei, though he was very nearly eclipsed by the cuisine, the high point of which was a paper plateful of haggis, neeps, tatties and mince, which was deemed acceptable on the grounds that "Burns would have liked it".
