ANY radio station worth its salt has a programme on to which a person of note is invited to choose their favourite music.

The reason is simple: it's cheap to make and a trusted, winning format. Of course, the doyen, the daddy of the genre is Desert Island Discs on Radio 4. Its current presenter is Kirsty Young who, n the wakes of originator Roy Plomley Michael Parkinson and Sue Lawley, has made it her own.
