OFFICIALS within the European Commission are considering "revisiting" their investigation into the links between the former EU trade commissioner, Peter Mandelson, and the Russian billionaire, Oleg Deripaska.

If a new and more detailed investigation is ordered by Brussels this week, following Lord Mandelson's admission that officials may have given out wrong information on how long he had known Deripaska and when they had first met, the prospect of a third Cabinet resignation looms for Mandelson.
