THE Gleneagles G8 summit has long since come and gone and the predictions made by some of us at the time are already coming to pass. Lots of fine words, any number of promises made to the world's poor, and precious little action. The recriminations have begun to affect almost everyone involved - everyone, that is, save the eight powerful men who made all those fine promises.
They sail on, content to have said the right things at the right time for the benefit of the cameras. For them, after all, the words are what matter; the words are on the record.
