CAMPAIGNERS have branded the Department of Health "arrogant" and "unfit for purpose" for failing to attend an independent inquiry which is examining how contaminated NHS blood products led to thousands of haemophiliacs contracting HIV and hepatitis C.

Officials have confirmed that no representative from the Department of Health will give evidence at the ongoing inquiry, led by Lord Archer of Sandwell. A spokesman told the Sunday Herald the department believed there was no need for the investigation.
