A SCRAP has been predicted for 1pm at Parkhead today, with an outside chance of a football match breaking out. Observers who consider themselves capable of gauging the Old Firm temperature reckon that today's first derby of the season has the hallmarks of a game that could get a little tasty.

The Old Firm rivalry boils on a high flame all year around but every so often bubbles over, as if in need of a periodic release. The fixture has been comparatively subdued of late. It is 17 months and six matches since anyone was sent off in the Glasgow derby. The players have not exactly been handing each other bouquets of flowers in the intervening period, but by its own bruising tradition the match is overdue some trouble.
