MARTIN O'NEILL last night surveyed the damage done to his "jet- lagged" players' title challenge - with cast-off striker Mark Burchill the key figure for Hearts in a seismic SPL shock which handed Rangers a priceless and unexpected initiative 21 days from the final Old Firm showdown.
The defending champions had won five consecutive league games since losing the last Old Firm match in February - but following yesterday's defeat, Rangers will return to the top of the table if they win at Motherwell this afternoon. Alex McLeish's side also have home advantage for the crucial Old Firm fixture on April 24. On- loan strikers Lee Miller and Burchill, with the second, scored early goals, and the response from O'Neill's team was sluggish as Hearts won at Parkhead for the first time in five years.
