WHEN Tony Blair first talked of "New Labour" in October 1994 in front of an admiring audience at Labour's annual conference in Brighton, he announced that there was one key obstacle in the way: disillusion with politics itself. To overcome the fallout from the "Tory years", he said that New Labour had to show "our politics is not theirs".
