Summary

City of Glasgow's Robbie Renwick held off a Welsh teenager to win the 400 metres freestyle at the British Gas Championships in Manchester yesterday, but his time of 3:51.90 wasn't quite good enough to claim a spot in the GB team for the World Championships in Shanghai in the summer.

Renwick's main event is the 200m freestyle tomorrow - he is the Commonwealth Games champion - and the 22-year-old showed he was in form by winning a close final over the longer distance from Cardiff 17-year-old Ieuan Lloyd (3:52.62). Joshua Welsh, 19, was third in 3:52.74.
