THE Uefa Cup has become an ugly, unlovable tournament, unnecessarily complicated and messy. There is a good chance it will be won this season by a team which will not even play a game in it until February. The general public is unsure of the format, with many regarding it as a cup which limps along in the shadow of the Champions League.
Education can be imparted in various guises, though, and Paul Le Guen can see huge merit in the Uefa Cup for Rangers this season. He regards their first round, second leg tie against Molde at Ibrox on Thursday, which in less stressful times would have been seen as a formality, as a pivotal fixture in his first season in Scotland.
