Coutts No Threat to Adam & Co, Insists Rbs Head

EVER since The Royal Bank of Scotland acquired Coutts & Co as part of its NatWest takeover four years ago, there has been speculation that the bank's Edinburgh-based Adam & Company subsidiary might be merged with, or lose out to, its larger English rival.

This is despite the fact that Gordon Pell, chairman of RBS's retail banking business, has consistently said he has no desire to become a "brand imperialist."
