THE crisis over the lack of full-time teaching posts has deepened after it was revealed that a recent vacancy for a primary school teacher attracted 500 applicants.

Demand is so high in North Lanarkshire that the number of teachers applying for each job has not dipped below 150 this year. The average number of teaching applicants per post was 239 in April.
