THE risk of developing diseases in later life could be reduced by preventative action taken in childhood, with a new study revealing that young people who eat vegetables are less likely to suffer a stroke.

Researchers followed up the records of a major survey of family diet and health in Britain, which was carried out between 1937 and 1939, involving more than 4000 people living in England and Scotland.
