Summary
THE saga of Dean McKeown's removal from the list of licenced jockeys must surely have come to an end at Southwell last Tuesday when his licence was withdrawn to "protect the integrity of racing". The BHA decision was taken after a ride was deemed to have broken the rules surrounding "non-triers", a remarkable misjudgment on the rider's behalf given that just 12 days earlier he'd been warned off for four years and was only allowed to ride while he considered an appeal.
Dick Francis has come up with a few gems in this sphere over the years and there have been some real-life dodgy dealings involving infamous horses such as Gay Future and Flockton Grey but the prize for this year's "You Couldn't Make It Up If You Tried" award goes to McKeown and his mount named, I kid you not, Rascal In The Mix.See the full content of this document
