FOR months William Clark, chairman of the Perthshire Agricultural Society, had been organising one of Scotland's biggest agricultural shows. Within half an hour of the outbreak of foot-andmouth in Surrey, plans to judge 100 rare Charolais cattle yesterday were abandoned as quarantine and disinfectant became the order of the day.

Perth Show, which annually attracts up to 25,000 people and promises "two action-packed days of fun for all the family", faced cancellation under tough new government rules.
