IT is appropriate an insurance company should sponsor a competition that provides provincial teams with only an occasional dividend. Having featured as a youngster in the 2001 CIS Cup final, as the Rugby Park side went down to a Henrik Larsson hat-trick in a 30 defeat to Celtic, Garry Hay might have expected trips to cup finals to become a regular occurrence. As it is, ahead of Tuesday night's semifinal against Falkirk at Fir Park, the club captain is the only remaining member of the Kilmarnock starting XI from that day, and the only trophy he has won since then has been the Ayrshire Cup.
