Summary
As the clock ticked down and the frenzy intensified, the hand signals in the technical areas looked the same but varied markedly in meaning. Danny Lennon, the St Mirren manager, was frantically waving his men back to safeguard three points, while his Dunfermline counterpart, Jim McIntyre, was feverishly urging his troops forward in a last-gasp assault on a share of the spoils.
It shouldn't have been this fraught for the hosts, of course. A robust first half display, full of pace, movement and thrusting raids forward, had swept them into a comfortable two goal lead which could easily have been greater. Yet, Dunfermline, galvanised by the introduction of Joe Cardle after the resumption, almost plundered something from the contest as the pendulum began to swing in their favour.
