Gavin Rumgay will go to any lengths in his bid to become the first Scot to play in an Olympic table tennis event. The Scottish No 1 and British No 4 leaves for China this month for a four-week training camp, hoping it will provide the foundations for his challenge.

Having been to similar camps, he knows how tough a regime it will be. It is a monastic existence of six hours of repetitive table tennis every day, followed by an hour in the gym, while keeping to a strict diet, but he believes it will hone him for the final push towards London 2012.
