IF, as Ian Bell argues in this week's Seven Days section, we should judge politicians by their policies rather than their personal lives, we should celebrate the resignation of David Blunkett as Home Secretary.
Of course, it is impossible to ignore the events leading up to his departure, which in themselves were enough to justify his resignation. He may continue to claim that he did not directly order the speeding up of a visa application for his then lover's nanny.
