THE death of a Gurkha soldier in one of the bloodiest days for UK forces in Afghanistan has heaped more pressure on the government to review residency rights for ageing Nepalese soldiers who fight for Britain .

Corporal Kumar Pun, 31, from the 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifl es, was among four soldiers killed and fi ve injured on Thursday in three attacks across the south of the country. The attack also left at least 16 Afghan civilians dead and more than 30 wounded, according to the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force.
