WALTER SMITH will, of course, pull Scottish international football out of decline and miraculously take us to the finals in Germany 2006 and we will maybe even win a medal. (Do you know how difficult it is to type sentences like that with all your fingers crossed? ) But even if it takes Walter a bit longer to improve our lot, there is a wee glimmer of hope on the horizon.
There are moves afoot to bring back the British championship as a knockout competition, beginning in 2007. You can imagine the scenario: we scrape through past Wales and then go on to beat England in the final. Result: happiness.
