Summary
PAUL Hegarty will be unveiled as the new member of the Scotland coaching staff on Thursday. The former Dundee United and Livingston manager was offered the post by George Burley yesterday after Gary McAllister, the original preference, declined the invitation to join the Scotland manager's backroom team to concentrate on finding a fulltime club job in England. Hegarty has been out of work since he left Livingston in bizarre and acrimonious circumstances in April. He was suspended by the controversial former owner, Angelo Massone, and then barred from undertaking his duties at Almondvale.
The 55-year-old was originally earmarked for a scouting role under Burley before he replaced Roberto Landi at Livingston and while he does not possess the box office appeal of McAllister, his experience and respect as a training ground coach prompted Burley to offer him the part-time post alongside his assistant, Terry Butcher.See the full content of this document
