Summary
THE fashion world has been having fun lately, clashing textures and prints, and blithely mixing stripes, stars and spots. So it's a little deflating to cast your eyes over the upcoming autumn/winter 08 collections and see they are somewhat bereft of the playfulness that has permeated the summer collections and increasingly our wardrobes. My advice is to wring every last bit of pleasure you can from these more frivolous moments, before you're taken aside and scolded into dressing like a proper adult again.
Indeed, a lot of these pieces, with their borderline theatricality, could have a second life when allied to next season's tuxedo jackets, tailored trousers and, gulp, bowler hats (which are looking surprisingly good in Topshop's new advertising campaign).
