JVC, the Japanese-owned flat-panel TV maker which employs 300 people in south Lanarkshire, is to reconsider its long-term commitment to Scotland after its 2007-2008 financial performance is audited at the end of this month.

The management of the East Kilbride plant, which last year made a loss of GBP3.5 million, said that it was "struggling" to survive in Scotland, as increased competition was lowering prices for LCD TV sets, and eating into margins.
