Summary
STEPHEN Khan, who quit as Scotland editor of The Observer, to work for the paper in India barely had his passport stamped by customs officials before he was considering his options once more. Having spent little more than a fortnight on the subcontinent Mediawatch can reveal that he will be moving to London in the next couple of weeks to become deputy foreign editor of The Independent. Given that he was last heard to be having "a rare old time" in Kathmandu, he probably won't be filing any copy from there, given his new appointment.
HOW reassuring it is to know that our newsagent friends are so very much on the ball. One David Prince of RS McColl last week wrote to someone he thinks works at our Edinburgh office, by the name of Mr S Herald. "Dear Mr Herald," he began. "We know that a good newspaper is an essential part of your morning routine." How true. Prince then informed Mr S Herald of the many attractions of something called The Observer, helpfully pointing out that it is a newspaper published on a Sunday.
