Two veteran Glasgow MPs have fallen out in an internal Labour feud over keeping a place in the Commons, while a Lanarkshire MP has opted to stand down and avoid a bruising battle for another of the Westminster seats.

Bill Tynan, an adversary of First Minister Jack McConnell, last week told his Hamilton South party members that he would retire at the next election, expected in 11 months.
