Edinburgh have been Heineken Cup also-rans for too many seasons, but they couldn't have felt closer to the heart of Europe last night had they added Angela Merkel to their coaching team. This was a stunning, storming victory, bold and brilliantly executed, and it gave them real hope of making an impact in the cup for the first time in many years. They host Racing Metro at Murrayfield on Friday evening and the capital's rugby pulses should be in overdrive at the prospect.
Edinburgh had not won a Heineken Cup game on English soil since their 23-22 victory at Northampton 11 years ago.
