THE controversial 5per cent levy which both halves of the Old Firm are demanding for administering away ticket sales may have inadvertently caused them to fail to comply with one of the terms of their own contract with sponsors Carling, the Sunday Herald understands.

Under the details of the GBP18m deal the Glasgow giants signed with the drinks manufacturer back in 2005, there is a requirement for the brewer to receive a small amount of tickets for each Rangers and Celtic match, whether at home or away. It was a matter which was dealt with routinely enough until last week, when Falkirk decided to resist the levy and oversee the sale of all tickets for the visiting fans' areas of the Falkirk Stadium themselves.
