WATCHING Zinedine Zidane in the World Cup final tonight will be more than adequate consolation for not being graced with the great man's words in Berlin last night. Zidane was expected to appear at a press conference in the Olympiastadion - the media briefing was so eagerly-awaited it was a ticket-only event - to reveal his thoughts going into the final match of an extraordinary career.
But, in keeping with what seems to have become a self-imposed media exile since the World Cup began, there was an empty space beside French coach Raymond Domenech which Zidane had been expected to fill. Having promised Domenech and "one player" would appear at the briefing, no explanation was forthcoming from French Football Federation officials for the non-appearance of any of Les Bleus.See the full content of this document
