Jack McConnell flies to Normandy this morning to make his peace with D-Day veterans, but feeling upset that "he was left hanging in the wind" by their representatives.

The First Minister has also pledged that the debacle over his visit to the D-Day commemoration has been taken seriously, will not be repeated and is "a line in the sand". A review of the First Minister's team which deals with his diary planning is being promised, though those close to him are talking down the prospect of advisers being fired.
