AIDEN McGEADY has admitted he was only given his international debut at such a young age to prevent Berti Vogts and Scotland from getting their hands on him. The 18-year-old Celtic winger - who was born in Glasgow but controversially elected to play for Ireland under the grandparent rule - was given his first cap for his chosen country as a late substitute in a recent friendly against Jamaica, but has been told by Ireland boss Brian Kerr not to expect further inclusion unless he continues to hold down a consistent place in the Celtic first team. Early indications this season are that McGeady may do precisely that, but already the player has dropped back down to the Ireland Under-21 side for next Tuesday night's friendly against Bulgaria. For all his ability to put opposing defenders under a temporary spell with his tricks and feints, the teenager is certainly under no illusions about how far he still has to go.
