IT might be pushing the matter just a tad too far to suggest that the season could be over almost before it has begun, but there is little doubt whatsoever that Saturday's SRU Premiership opener between Heriot's and Glasgow Hawks has the potential to be one of the new campaign's defining contests.

On their spruce Goldenacre pitch, a home win for Heriot's against the threepeat Scottish champions would be a massive confidence boost and a hugely significant scalp. Should the Hawks come out on top, however, the result would send a signal to every other club in the division that the frailties of last season have been dealt with and that the raptors are looking ravenous once more.
