THE psychiatrist charged with getting inside the mind of Josef Fritzl has hit out at British media speculation that the horrific case was symptomatic of an "Austria mentality", citing similar cases in Scotland and the rest of Europe, which she claims show the horrific crime could have happened anywhere.

Adelheid Kastner was responding to claims that Fritzl had been able to hold his daughter prisoner in the cellar of the family home for 24 years without detection because Austrian society was inclined to turn a blind eye to neighbours' behaviour.
