RANGERS chairman David Murray last night denied that fellow Scottish businessman Sir Tom Hunter is among the unnamed parties who have indicated a tentative interest in buying his 91.8per cent stake in the Ibrox club. Murray has said he will sell his holding within the next two years if a suitable purchaser can be found.
The Edinburgh steel and property magnate, who paid GBP6 million to buy an initial controlling interest in Rangers from Lawrence Marlborough in 1988, also warned that owning a major football club was not a job for the faint-hearted. Asked if the proliferation of media outlets, as well as supporters' websites, made owning Rangers too much of a strain for one man, he replied: "Not for me. But one should never underestimate the daily scrutiny of being the chairman and owner of a major football club.
