Dalkeith has become the most expensive place to live in Scotland, according to the Bank of Scotland house price index. The Midlothian commuter town has knocked Edinburgh off the longstanding top spot. June saw record mortgage lending of GBP32.2 billion, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML). The organisation says lending was 11-per cent higher than in May and almost 30-per cent up on June 2005.
