SOLDIERS will fight for many reasons. Idealism or simple conviction is one, pride in the task in hand is another. Surprisingly, patriotism makes only a small contribution, especially at the sharp end of battle, where survival is paramount.
The bottom line is that they're fighting for the guys around them, their mates and muckers, but despite that caveat, no soldier was ever born who does not take up arms unless they feel that they are engaged in a worthwhile cause.See the full content of this document
