THE athlete with No 443 on her chest insisted there was nothing unusual about her run. Didn't she feel a little race rusty? She couldn't say because she wasn't sure what that felt like. But yesterday was no ordinary day for Christine Ohuruogu. Because, for the first time in 13 months, the Commonwealth 400m champion was involved in a competitive event.

It may be stretching reality to suggest the heats of the 400m at the Brodies Scottish National Championships were a real test for an athlete of Ohuruogu's ability, but having just completed a year- long ban for missing three out-of-competition drugs tests, it did represent a return from the wilderness.
