Summary
WDL EE ND T HE Green Well of Scotland is a rather grandiose name for a stretch of the Water of Deugh, a lively burn that flows down from the conifer covered hills of the Carsphairn Forest in north Galloway. After a night of torrential rain it was livelier than usual, foaming, bubbling and brown with peat, and part of me wished I had a kayak instead of a pair of walking boots.
I was rounding off a visit to Galloway, an area that tends to be as remote from my highland home as a visit to Sutherland would be for Borderers and, after a couple of very wet days, all I wanted was a casual stroll up a hill before the long drive north.
