THE 2008 season may not have got off to the best of starts, with John Durnin's misfi ring production of the unimpressive comedy Wild Honey, but there is no question that Pitlochry Festival Theatre's package of six plays for summer continues to be a success story year- on-year.

It is easy for its detractors to sneer at the theatre (which has staged almost as many Alan Ayckbourn plays and Agatha Christie adaptations as its handsome shop has sold pieces of ornamental china) and to deride the perceived artistic conservatism of its programmes, but one senses a subtle, incremental shift under Durnin's leadership.
