POLICE chiefs are to veto controversial plans for premier league football on Friday nights because the fixtures will risk public safety, damage morale and push resources to breaking point.

The move will lead to the collapse of a package of fixtures set to have been adopted by the Scottish Premier League (SPL) under a new GBP54.5 million deal with satellite broadcaster Setanta.
