Summary
I'M not going to stand here (see bottom left of column) saying there are no good points, as a parent, to being far away from my own family, the most genetically intimate of whom have been in Spain for donkey's years, and my wife's, who have been in Australia since time began. Confl ict of every kind can generally be avoided, as can the day-to-day nuisance of loved ones offering advice you don't want to hear, and observations you don't want to think about. It's an elective state of orphanhood, and surprisingly easy to deal with on the whole.
