The small print accompanying the Scottish Government's GDP figures for the second quarter of 2010 last week contained some dramatic revisions to past years' data. Construction data, for example, has been spectacularly "reprofiled" as the jargon has it, including revisions down of between 11-13% for 2003 to 2005. This leaves an overall "profile" for growth of +8% from 1995-2005 (less than 1% per year in a boom), followed by a 17% jump up in the next two years to 2007. Eh?
The figures are wildly at variance with previous figures, which showed construction growth of 22% in 1995-2005, followed by 2% 2005 to 2007. For the UK as a whole, construction rose by 27% 1995-2005 and by 3% 2005-2007.See the full content of this document
