RON Hewitt, the chief executive of Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, has welcomed the first fall in the capital's house prices for four decades, saying that the 6.5per cent year-on-year drop in prices, the first since 1971, would help attract needed workers to the city.
Hewitt said: "A drop in prices is a welcome temporary respite, if indeed the prices are dropping.
