AS bandleader of The Smiths in the 1980s, Morrissey was the patron saint of depressed adolescents; now he's somehow become a pop idol for pre-teens. In 10 years or so, Nathan, nine, and Adam, seven, will have something to legitimately brag about when they enter a student union for the first time, impressing attractive undergraduates with tales of their momentous first gig. Their dad, Kevin, is taking them to see Morrissey, and it's not just any old gig; the handsome musketeer of bedroom angst is playing Paisley for the first time, a cosy town hall show all the more unusual considering he's just boomeranged so spectacularly back into fashion.

His latest album You Are The Quarry is his best selling yet, and in March this year, he sold out the enormous Manchester MEN Arena in five hours for a special concert to celebrate his 45th birthday. Fingers crossed, then, the Paisley gig will be a night Adam and Nathan will be telling their own kids about.
