Summary

Neil Alexander: Allan who?

McGregor's replacement handled the slippery ball well, made short work of angled Nakamura free kick, and produced crucial stop with his feet on the stroke of half-time to defy Vennegoor of Hesselink header. 7 Christian Dailly: The veteran may have been as relieved as anyone not to have been facing McGeady. Got forward as the occasion dictated, but unable to provide much genuine quality. 6 David Weir: The 39-yearold skipper was occasionally troubled by McDonald but appeared much happier against Vennegoor of Hesselink. His experience helped limit Celtic's threat to set pieces. 7 Madjid Bougherra: Watched by Birmingham manager Alex McLeish, the Algerian set the tone for his side with some excellent aggressive defensive work against McDonald. 7 Steven Whittaker: Things haven't always gone swimmingly for the former Hibs full back, but this was probably his best Old Firm outing. Got forward well and unlucky to see his cross rebound from the post. 7 Steven Davis: Fired warning shot across Boruc's box early on, and made great headway to slide in Rangers' first Old Firm goal for 348 minutes. Cleared one off the line, and his low cross to Boyd almost led to the second. 8 Pedro Mendes: Less prominent than he or his manager might have hoped, but then neither side managed to play too much through the midfield. 6 Maurice Edu: Struggled to show the requisite composure in the cauldron of his first Old Firm start early on but his athleticism shone through as the game went on. Recovered after fi rst-half collision with Loovens. 8 Steven Smith: Workmanlike shift down the left, although had his hands full with Hinkel and Nakamura. Booked for crazy lunge on the German as halftime approached, and replaced by Lafferty. 6 Kris Boyd: Again failed to score against Celtic. Will think he should have got something on the early Whittaker cross which hit the post, could only hit Boruc when clean through, then had his close- range finish deflected wide by Loovens. Put in a shift, though. 6 Kenny Miller: Brought into the team at the expense of Velicka and excelled on the big occasion.
