STV has launched a robust defence of its drama output after it was revealed last week that ITV has decided not to commission a sixth series of the company's crime drama Rebus.

An STV spokeswoman denied reports that Ken Stott, pictured, who has played Ian Rankin's grizzled Edinburgh detective since John Hannah left the role after the first series, no longer wanted to be associated with the part.
