Summary

ROBBIE Neilson is being interviewed in the reception area at Edinburgh Airport, not an inappropriate location for a player who is still not entirely sure whether he is coming or going. It is little wonder he is confused about the matter. The 27-year-old's early season form last year was good enough for him to intrude on the Scotland squad for the first time and be quoted for a move to Rangers, yet it didn't stop him ending the campaign as a virtual outcast upon his return from an operation to repair knee cartilage.

Neilson was always careful not to join messrs Pressley, Gordon and Hartley in the ranks of Midlothian malcontents, but the message as he prepared to fly out to Hearts' training camp in Austria last week was clear enough. With at least four right-back rivals next season Ibrahim Tall, Christos Karipidis, Nerius Barasa, and the incoming Pascal Mendy Neilson will try everything possible to feel wanted at Tynecastle. If it hasn't happened by the time the season starts, he will be looking for another club.
